The 160th Show
In a little over 3 weeks, we will all be getting ready to celebrate what is remarkably going to be our 160th Show. I have been involved as Secretary for 9 years now & have seen quite a lot of change just in this relatively short time. We are quite a small country Show conscious of preserving our traditions but accepting that technology, whilst making some aspects easier is scarily increasing its’ presence. There is a section about the History of the Show on this site, we think it started in the 1840’s & if you haven’t read it, it’s very interesting, populated with lovely photos.
I often wonder what it would be like to not have Microsoft, the Internet & a mobile phone to organise this event & I am in awe of those who had to do that before we had all this electronic capability.
Currently I’m processing Entry Forms which come in a variety of formats, original Entry forms sent in the post, copies photographed & sent by mail or text, or just plain emails. We now have the capacity for our Exhibitors to download the Schedule via our website which was launched mid-way through last year attracting 2,300 views with just over 50% of those in the days leading up to the Show. One view was a couple visiting this area from the States who looked online to see if there was anything interesting to visit locally – emailed me at 5.30am! - came & enjoyed a wonderful day.
Last year we were blessed with the most wonderful weather & we can only but hope that this year will be the same. Our Main Ring Entertainment will follow its normal timetable, the Dog Show increasing to 3 rings due to its’ popularity. We have increased the size of the Craft Tent & that is filling up with an exciting range of products. I’ve been promised to be let out of my Tent this year so that I can have a good look around & do some spending.
As always, we wish all of you entering the very best of luck & for those planning on visiting, we look forward to seeing you & hope that you have a wonderful time.
Angela (Show Secretary)
