The Yetholm Border Shepherds’ Show

Saturday 4th October 2025

Come and experience the beauty and charm of the countryside, as we come together to honour our agricultural roots and showcase the talents and hard work of our local farmers and rural community. It is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich traditions and vibrant community spirit that have shaped this event for over 150 years.

What’s on

Join us for a jam-packed day filled with a variety of activities for all ages! Whether you prefer to watch, participate, or simply enjoy the food and drinks on offer, there's something for everyone at the Yetholm Border Shepherds’ Show.

  • The Yetholm Show has built a reputation for showcasing excellence, particularly with our Scottish Champion of Champions Stick competition. The “Best in Show” from all the shows in the country qualify to enter this end of season championship and there is always a fine range of sticks on display. You’ll witness the biggest display of walking sticks, neck crooks & leg cleeks with elaborate woodheads and hornheads each one a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of their creators.

  • The Vintage Machinery display at the Yetholm Show offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the heritage of farming practices and machinery that have shaped our agricultural landscape. Visitors can learn more about this classic display of vintage machinery, vehicles, cars, motorcycles, and tractors.

  • The Sheep Section at the Yetholm Show features a variety of breeds from our local sheep farming community; including Cheviot, Blackface, and North Country Cheviot. We also encourage young handlers to participate and demonstrate their skills on the day.

  • Whether you are a participant or simply a dog lover, the Dog Show promises to be an entertaining spectacle for everyone. From terriers, working gun dogs to collie dogs, there is a diverse range of breeds competing in the Main Ring.

  • Explore the rich tapestry of creativity and craftsmanship in our bustling Industrial Tent. From farm-fresh eggs and homemade preserves, the tent is brimming with a diverse array of talents and creations including baked goods and needlework pieces. Meanwhile, the Horticultural Section is a treasure trove of homegrown delights, featuring a stunning array of locally grown vegetables, vibrant flowers and exquisite floral art.

  • The Yetholm Hill Race is a true test of endurance and strength for all ages, with the Scottish hills often creating a seriously muddy challenge alongside the vertical ones! This competition attracts runners, from all over the region, who are looking to test their limits and push themselves to new heights. Learn more about the Hill Race.

  • Crafting has become increasingly popular over the past few years and this space enables Crafters to share their passion with our visitors. From fragrant candles to sheep shaped soaps, ceramic tealight holders to bamboo socks, delicatessen items to artwork. There’s something in here for everyone, providing an opportunity to purchase some unique gifts or maybe just spoiling themselves. Our outside stands sell a variety of wares from shoes and clothing to confectionery and many other things.

  • With a lot to pack into the afternoon, the start of the Hill Race is a colourful spectacle. Children’s sports follow and then the Duns Pipe Band, having walked through the village, play their way around the inside of the ring paving the way for the Dog Show which is great fun to watch. A parade round the ring from the Vintage Machinery is quite extraordinary and details of the models & their ages can be found in the Show Catalogue, which is on sale on the day for £3. The entertainment wouldn’t be the same without a visit from the College Valley hounds who quite often mingle with our visitors, many of who have not been up this close before and are quite enamoured by their gentle nature. As we get close to the end of the Show, the Duns Pipe Band once again play for us before the Cups and Trophies are presented to all our worthy winners.

  • The Children's Activity Tent provides a fun and engaging space for children to participate in various activities and competitions.

  • Enjoy a variety of food and drink options throughout the day as we welcome Peter Allan Catering, Forte Bros - Fish & Chips, Donuts and Ice Cream, and Bars4You providing a licenced bar, to the Show.

  • With advancing technology and mobile phones having good cameras this Section of the Show has expanded dramatically. It shares tent space with the Sticks having outgrown its previous home alongside the Industrial Section. Having a mobile camera to hand has given our budding photographers the chance to capture some great shots.
